Frankfurt RheinMain meets New York

A delegation led by Mike Josef, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt am Main, is currently in the USA to expand the international relations of the City of Frankfurt. FrankfurtRheinMain GmbH International Marketing of the Region (FRM GmbH) took advantage of its chairman's trip to New York to organise two events for US companies interested in Germany as a business location. On 27 March, a delegation from FRM GmbH hosted a dinner for executives from US financial companies. One day later, FRM GmbH hosted a business breakfast with the theme: Opportunities for companies in the Frankfurt RheinMain Metropolitan Region after the elections. This event was also attended by the delegation of the Lord Mayor of Frankfurt - including Hilime Arslaner, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt, Dr Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt, Thomas Feda, Managing Director of Frankfurt Tourismus+Congress GmbH, Ulrich Caspar, President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Bernhard Grieb, Managing Director of Frankfurt Economic Development.

Mike Josef, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of FRM GmbH, spoke in favour of locating and expanding the company in Frankfurt RheinMain: "Our economy in the region thrives on international exchange and cooperation. Our metropolitan regions have a lot in common. The relationship between Frankfurt am Main and New York is stable and vibrant. Both cities are among the most important financial centres in the world. Both Frankfurt and New York are home to a historically grown diversity of cultures and religions. Both cities are at the heart of a thriving metropolitan region with renowned companies and an outstanding research and innovation landscape. We will build on this and look forward to even more US companies discovering our region in the future."

In his speech, Eric Menges, President & CEO of FRM GmbH, presented the economic strength, various sectors and competence clusters of the Frankfurt RheinMain metropolitan region. In personal talks with company representatives, he promoted the idea of relocating to the region: "The aim of our events was to send out a signal: Our region is open for investments and relocations from abroad. Thanks to its central location, Frankfurt RheinMain is the perfect location for companies planning to do business in Europe. We also have an American community that has been growing for many years, with numerous contact points and associations. The mix of strong, closely interlinked industries, as well as the internationality, quality of life and cultural diversity, make our region attractive to a wide range of industries."

David Knower, Co-Regional Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany (AmCham). He spoke about the strong economic ties between Germany and the US, reflected in particular in the large number of American companies in the region.

The representatives from the Frankfurt RheinMain region who had travelled to the event were able to exchange ideas with some 70 guests from the worlds of business, finance and academia. There is a clear interest on the part of US companies to cooperate and expand in Frankfurt RheinMain.

Friendship & Business

With a population of around 20 million, the New York metropolitan area is one of the world's most important commercial centres. Along with London and Tokyo, it is one of the world's largest financial centres. More than 20,000 Americans live and work in the Frankfurt RheinMain area. With 1,500 companies and 15 headquarters, the region is the top location in Germany for American companies. Fifteen German headquarters of major American companies (including Procter & Gamble, Goodyear, Honeywell, Eli Lilly, AbbVie, DuPont, JP Morgan, Abbott) are located here. The U.S. Consulate General in Frankfurt is one of the largest U.S. missions in the world and the second largest U.S. consulate in Europe after London. Frankfurt am Main is not only the most American city in Germany because of its skyline, it is also home to typical American restaurants, networks and organisations such as the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham). The English language skills in the region also make Frankfurt RheinMain the ideal location for any company operating in the German and European markets.

Country roads, take me home…

Frankfurt RheinMain is not only attractive to American companies - major sporting events are also coming to Frankfurt. In 2023, the NFL hosted two games at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt's Stadtwald. More than 100,000 spectators watched the games between the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs as well as the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots. By broadcasting the games live around the world, Frankfurt was able to show that it is not only a major financial centre, but can also host and celebrate major sporting events.
